Let’s Talk Stroller, Baby Wearing & Big Kid Safety in Class
Diane Kirksey
At FIT4MOM, we believe that safety is strength—and that’s why we’re taking time this Safety Month to highlight the most important part of every class: keeping you and your little ones safe, happy, and moving together.
Whether you’re pushing a stroller, wearing your baby, or have a big kid by your side, here’s why safety is such an important part of our community:
Stroller Safety
Why it matters: Keeping kids secured in their stroller protects them from falls and keeps distractions to a minimum—so YOU can focus on crushing your workout!
How we make it happen:
- All children must be buckled in at all times while in the stroller.
- Brakes should be engaged during stationary exercises.
- Keep favorite toys, snacks and water handy.
- Depending on the time of year, have stroller fan or blanket to keep kiddos comfortable no matter the weather.
Baby Wearing Basics
Why it matters: Baby wearing can be a great way to soothe little ones during class, but only when done with proper form and attention to both baby’s and mom’s safety.
How we make it happen:
- Only wear baby when it’s safe to do so—no high-impact moves or running.
- Use a properly fitted carrier with baby's airways always visible and clear.
- Always check with your instructor about any modifications you may need throughout class.
Big Kid Guidelines
Why it matters: We love our big kids and want to ensure their safety AND moms! Kids wandering off or running around creates safety risks and can disrupt the class flow. Keeping big kids close helps everyone stay safe, stay focused, and enjoy class.
How we make it happen:
During stations, big kids can sit on a yoga mat, towel, or chair.
While moving, big kids can walk alongside mom to the next station.
- Big kids should stay next to mom at all times.
-
Bring activities or headphones to help them stay occupied and happy.
-
Remind them: staying close = helping mom get strong.
*Bonus* These big kids get to see mom focusing on her health and wellness! This is a great way to set an example for our kids!
Why We're So Serious About Safety
- It keeps your kids safe
- It helps you focus on your workout
- It protects the group and instructors from injury and liability
- It sets a strong example for your kids about community and boundaries
Safety doesn’t have to be strict—it can be empowering, consistent, and even fun. When everyone understands the expectations, our village thrives.
So this month, let’s recommit to the little things that make a big difference.
